Sandra Mollon, Speaker and Workshop

July 8 Talk:  Adapting an Image for Art Quilts

Local Quilt Maker, Artist, Teacher, Sandra Mollon  has been making quilts for more than 20 years and has been teaching in Northern CA for more than 14 years.

This is her newest lecture.  In college she took classes in photography, and as she saw the rise of photo based art quilts, her interests merged.  This lecture is part trunk show (she will bring quilts to show), and a power point lecture which shows how to choose photos to work from, posterization of images, and finally the nuts and bolts of assembly and quilting.

These are some of her quilts:

July 9 Workshop:  Thread Painting

Thread Painting is a process by which a photograph is printed on a piece of fabric, usually cotton, and covered with stitching using a sewing machine.  The goal is to use free-motion stitching (hand guiding the stitching, no computer work is involved), covering and enhancing the image with thread.  The resulting work is both textural and realistic..
